May 2, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Cucina Cafe in the GoggleWorks for First Thursday featuring Jim Hubbard

Berks Bards welcomes Jim Hubbard, a World War II veteran who has traveled the world and written enchanting word-scapes about Crete.

Take a trip to this ancient island in the Mediterranean and see the land, its history and its people through Jim's eyes.

This event is free and open to the public. An open mic will follow the reading.

Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 1 until 3 p.m. at the Pagoda for Re-Envision Reading Writing Workshop

Berks Bards and the Pagoda Writers Group join forces on Saturday, April 27th, atop the Pagoda, 98 Duryea Drive in Reading.

Rachel Degler and Jennifer Gittings-Dalton will lead a creative writing workshop that encourages participants to re-envision Reading Pennsylvania while enjoying the beautiful sights from the top of Reading's signature monument.

A $1.00 donation to the Pagoda is suggested and an RSVP to 610-413-0373 is encouraged to secure your seat at this event.

Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at the Mifflin Community Library featuring Poetry Out Loud contestants from area schools

Regional and State contestants and winners of the Poetry Out Loud contest share the microphone with emerging young poets from Reading, Governor Mifflin and other area schools at 6:30 p.m. at the Mifflin Public Library, 6 Philadelphia Avenue in Shillington.

Chief among the students who will perform is Aaron Preston, a sophomore from Reading High School. Fifteen year old Person represented the Reading High School at the state competitions in Harrisburg this year.

An open mic is part of the evening's events.

Monday, April 22, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Schmidt Technology Center on the RACC campus with poets Brian Fanelli and Scott Thomas

Join Berks Bards in welcoming Scranton native Brian Fanelli to the Reading Area Community College campus, Schmidt Technology Center for a Poetry at 6, Bruce Stanley Memorial Reading.

Joining Fanelli will be poet Scott Thomas, also a Scranton area resident.

Fanelli has had his work nominated for a Pushcart Prize and Thomas has been published in Mankato Poetry Review and The Kentucky Poetry Review just to name a few.

Block of Art features Susan Kerschner, a cancer survivor, who is releasing her new book, The Shoulders of Country Roads.

Meet Susan at 2nd Mahantongo Street in Pottsville for a reading, a book signing and an open mic.

Sunday April 21, 2013 at 3 p.m. at the Exeter Library celebrating Earth Day with Elizabeth Bodien and Jen Gittings-Dalton

Grounded yourself in the spirit of Gaia and enjoy the poetry of Elizabeth Bodien and Jennifer Gittings-Dalton.

These two Berks Bards poets will be the featured readers and leaders in a conversation engendered by Earth Day at the Exeter Library, 4569 Prestwick Drive.

Thursday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Adamstown Library featuring John Kreiser and Hans Suhrbier

Take a philosophical and spiritual bent with the rhymes of John Kreiser and Han Suhrbier at the Adamstown Library, 3000 N. Reading Road, route 272 in Adamstown.

An open mic will follow the reading.

Sturday, April 13th, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Wise Owl Book Store in West Reading, featuring former Poet Laureate Heather Thomas

Heather Thomas, former Poet Laureate of Berks County, will be at the Wise Owl Book Store in West Reading, sharing her poetry and sharing a sampling of wines courtesy of the Vynecrest Winery.

Join Berks Bards in this intimate setting at 624 Penn Avenue in West Reading.

Wednesday April 10, 2013 at 5 p.m. at Mezcal's Restuarant in Reading featuring Percussion and Poetry

Berks Bards loosens up with a meal at Mezcal's Restaurant, 150 N. 6th Street in Reading, at 5 p.m. then enjoys a performance fusing poetry and percussion with Pete Barnhart beginning at 6.

You are invited to recite your poems with the beat of drums at an open mic from 6 to 8 p.m. Bring your appetite for a Mexican style meal and bring your poetry. The drumming is on us.

Sunday April 7, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. in the Albright Hall Faculty Club on Albright College Campus featuring poet Kerry Shawn Keyes

Please join Berks Bards in welcoming internationally known poet Kerry Shawn Keyes.

Keyes has moved from Appalachia to Lithuania via India and has now returned to Reading. He will be reading from his book, Night Flight, at the Albright Hall FAculty Club at 13th and Bern Streets in Reading on the Albright College Campus.

This event is free and open to the public.

Friday April 5, 2013 at 5 p.m. at Some Things Looming, 526 Washington St. in Reading, featuring poet Jayne Relaford Brown

Join Berks Bards at Some Things Looming on Washington Street in Reading for an art exhibit entitled Page Turner, creating new works with old books, and a poetry reading by Jayne Relaford Brown.

Jayne teaches at Penn State Berks Campus and will read during the reception at 5:30 p.m.

An open mic will follow at 7 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public.

Thursday April 4, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the GoggleWorks featuring a book signing with Susan Kershner

Join Berks Bards at 6 p.m. in La Cucina Cafe at the Gogglworks. We will be welcoming Susan Kershner.
Susan, a survivor of head and neck cancer, has just published a book of poetry which will be available for purchase.
She will give a reading, as will students from an urban charter school in Reading, under the direction of Monique Charles.

Open mic to follow.
