Nov. 20, 2013, 6 p.m. at Schmidt Training and Technology Center RACC Campus featuring Chris Longenecker and Rick Shoup

Join Berks Bards at Reading Area Community College for:

The Bruce Stanley Reading Series: Poetry At Six

in the Schmidt Training and Technology Center

with Chris Longenecker and Rick Shoup

Chris Longenecker, Lancaster County's Poet Laureate for 2012, and her husband Rick Shoup promise dramatic interpretations of Robert Frost as well as a reading of a selection of Chris Longenecker's poetry.

Chris’s Bio

Chris Longenecker did her first dramatic interpretation of a Robert Frost poem, ”Blueberries,” in high school.  Her appreciation of Frost has deepened over the years as she has studied his life and memorized more than 120 of his poems.   Chris also writes her own poetry, and her style has, not surprisingly, been compared to Frost’s.  Since moving to Lancaster in 1986, Chris has been involved in the Lancaster theater community.  In the mid 1990s, she began performing poetry in theatrical venues.   In 2009, Chris began “A Touch of Frost,” a project wherein she and her husband, Rick Shoup, take Frost’s poetry on the road, sharing programs in schools, nursing homes, and other venues.  Chris’ first book of poetry, How Trees Must Feel, was published by Cascadia Publishing House, Ltd. In 2011.   She was named Poet Laureate of Lancaster County in 2012.

Rick’s Bio

Rick Shoup has performed in many theatrical productions over the years.  His favorite roles have been comic roles in Shakespearean productions.   He is pleased to be able to lend a hand to Chris’s “Touch of Frost” programs.  He is a retired professional environmentalist and is active in several environmental preservation and restoration groups.  He says he is “much too lazy to be a poet himself.”
